But I Digress...
But I Digress...

The poems in Bacon and Eggs during the ascendency of Donald Trump and after the defeat of the Right Wing government in Canada. The poems use short lines to provide a focus on each line that is read. Yet, the poems show the angst that was building up in the world.

HOME

HOME It was as if nothing mattered anymore. Gone were the smiles, the glint in the eyes. Life bled out of her soul. Death was approaching. We could see it, one day at a time. What could we do, except hold her hand and smile to her, the memories going through our minds. We could see it, every evening. What could we do, except wish her sweet dreams, and we would be there in the morning with her favourite warm sweater from the old farmhouse of her childhood. Dust to dust The old cliche So very true

Where was I?

Where was I? COVID came and left the building after visiting for a month. Please don’t ask which of the gazillion of variants that that I entertained. But it is still obliging with the remnant of its visit. I now need to insure that one of my enemies doesn’t try to poison me. Like putting poison in the chocolate chip cookies I love. Then again, why would anyone spend twenty-five years in prison for ridding the world of another left-wing weirdo grand-father?

Interlude

A phone notification just came up. The blue hour glass is still, as if time has already been suspended. I laugh. It indicates that my screen time is down 20% from the previous week. I smile. Maybe my phone knows that Spring is almost upon us, here in the Great White North. March Sun uncovered orange peels begin to rot

It’s a wonderful time of the year

Damn! The software came in today. Just like clockwork. “Please click on the download button.” Duh! “Please click on the .exe file in your download folder.” Sure. “Please wait while the software configures itself.” Oh, oh… “Installation complete. Thank you for choosing TaxMan 2023. Shit! I know I’m going to be paying taxes this year. Why did I do this? It will take me all year to figure out the software…

It’s What I do Best

It’s What I do Best . . . join a conversation, late, catching the middle words of a discussion that waits to be rescued by my interruption, with a message that is unique. . . . start a story, with a missing opening, for those who care to listen, who still sit in a circle of men, who wonder who the hell am I taking all those liberties, speaking the truth. . . . smile at the confusion I have sown, knowing I have succeeded ; my point, the last words spoken, is nothing but a preemptive strike on their learned education and bullshit.

Skating down the left wing

This river of life is flowing towards tomorrow, always meandering, creating false hopes of silt, making us believe we can rest our bones on one of them, while we sit knowing our canoe is safe on the embankment, waiting for a doe and her fawn to come and drink from…

POEM

Isn’t it a snazzy title? I think so. If you wish, you can leave your comments and diatribes in the boxes at the end of the senryu. If you decide to read that far. I applaud those of you who will bully me with words that I haven’t heard since my high school years in the seventies. Yup, what is old is new. That has never changed. In fact, human nature has never changed. As for the idiots and racists out there, good luck. My fellow Canadian, Scotty, is about to beam me up. He says he can get a few cases of Romulan ale for next weekend. It’ll be one hell of a big bang. Before I go, I’m wondering if I can have a volunteer to hold the Deadman switch I installed near my beer fridge. Condos rising Will terminal velocity Be achieved?

In & Out

What’s happening? Two plus isn’t four in this oblong dimension. Even the sky has an evil looking shade of purple. Even Google Maps knows that this isn’t Kansas. It looks like I’m pinned to some white surface with muti-coloured polka dots. Is this Disney Land in another time and space continuum. That’s just great. Big Papi doesn’t exist along with the Green Monster. I wonder what’s over there? Shit! It’s a division of Russian conscripts along side T-34 tanks. What the hell? No, I am in hell! We just blew through the Eastern Front towards Berlin. How do I explain to the kids that David Bowie is waiting for me at the Brandenburg Gate?
